Gravitas House renamed The Old Crescent Bakery
Monday, 25th February 2019
What draws people to Bath? Its history, its architecture, its culturally rich backdrop, it’s buoyant food and drink offering, art, theatre…., the list goes on. It’s a city that appeals on so many levels, to so many. And why it is an easy city to talk about, some might say show off about….so be it! We live and work here, lucky us!
Our boutique property offering is a mix of Georgian Town Houses, quirky apartments and spacious homes, all with their own unique character and part to play in the history of the city, however small.
This month we have renamed one of our properties, after we decided the history of the building needed sharing. Our listed Georgian Townhouse, previously known to you as, Gravitas House will now be known as The Old Crescent Bakery, because, well, that was how it started life, as a deli/bakery as far back as 1768 and just a short walk from its famous namesake the Royal Crescent. One can only imagine staff taking a walk along the cobbled streets on early mornings to the bakery to grab the days freshest loaves……(see the wonderful Richard Bertinet’s (as seen on TV) Bertinet Bakery for the modern day version).
The Old Crescent Bakery retains many of its original charming historical features, such as an old bread oven in the downstairs bedroom, to this day, which is now a bedroom providing even more space and comfortable accommodation for larger groups.
There’s more…we made another discovery of late at The Old Crescent Bakery in the form of an old safe which sits in the main dining space. Getting creative, we turned that safe in to an honesty bar. In truth we gave the idea to our friends at Freestyle & Lime Electrical who worked their magic.
Our honesty bar serves G&T’s. No ordinary Gin & Tonic’s either, because the clever guys at @scoutandsage a local micro-distillery have created a special batch of gin just for us, which we hope you’ll love. Our own quality control measures give it a big thumbs up…. So, when you arrive with us late of an evening, you’ll find the bar stocked, with fresh limes and ice in the fridge. Welcome to Bath.
What else can we tell you about The Old Crescent Bakery? It has 4 bedrooms sleeping from 2 to 12 and is in central Bath meaning it’s perfect for a quiet few days away or a large family party. It is a mere 100 metres from the Royal Crescent and The Circus meaning it’s well placed for sight-seeing and we have parking options with flexible changeover days to suit. It is, like all our properties, also dog friendly.
So, new name for an old house, new facilities, same attention detail both at the property and within our team, ready to take your enquiries. Our best rates are direct.
We look forward to seeing you.
